- Track motors for curtains, tubular motors for roller, zebra and roman blinds
- Wired or rechargeable battery motors, chosen for your wiring and ceiling
- Remote, wall switch, app, Alexa and Google Assistant set up at handover
- Schedules that close west-facing curtains before the afternoon heat
- Power point and track position planned before false ceiling or painting
Motorization earns its cost on specific windows, not every window. A 10-foot sheet of glass in a Kokapet tower, a double-height villa living room, heavy blackout drapes in a bedroom where someone sleeps through the day. On a small bedroom window, a manual curtain does the job. We plan custom curtains in Hyderabad and blinds with motors where they make a difference, and say so when they won’t. Our complete curtains buying guide covers the fabric, heading and track choices that come before the motor.
Where motorized curtains and blinds make sense
- Floor-to-ceiling glass in high-rise flats, where curtains are long, heavy and get pulled at an angle by hand.
- Double-height windows in villas, where the top of the window is out of reach.
- Windows behind furniture, like a sofa, bed or study table.
- West-facing rooms, where a schedule can close the curtains before the afternoon sun hits.
- Home theatres and bedrooms used by night-shift workers, where blackout matters at fixed times.
- Elderly family members, for whom tugging a heavy curtain is a daily strain.
Track motors versus tubular motors
| Curtain track motor | Tubular motor (blinds) | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Motor at the end of an aluminium track drives a belt that pulls the curtain carriers | Motor sits inside the roller tube and turns it |
| Used for | Pinch pleat, ripplefold, sheers and blackout curtains | Roller, zebra (dual-layer) and roman blinds |
| Size limit | Rated by load in kg; long or lined curtains need a stronger motor | Set by tube diameter and fabric weight |
| Power | Mains-wired or rechargeable battery | Mains-wired or rechargeable battery |
| Good to know | Double tracks let you motorize sheer and blackout separately | Neat inside a window recess, no visible motor |

Wired or battery motor?
Wired motors need a socket or junction box near the track head. Plan it before the false ceiling is closed and the walls painted, which is why we often coordinate with false ceiling work in new flats. They never need charging.
Rechargeable battery motors need no wiring and suit finished homes and rentals. They’re charged by cable every few months, depending on use.
Planning motorization in a new flat
If you’re doing interiors before moving in, decide which windows get motors at the false-ceiling drawing stage, not after the ceiling is closed. Fix these early:
- A socket or junction box above the false ceiling at the end of each track, on the side where the curtain will stack.
- A ceiling pocket wide and deep enough for a double track if you want sheer plus blackout.
- Wiring for wall switches next to the room’s light switches.
- Wi-Fi coverage in every room with a Wi-Fi motor; far bedrooms in large flats sometimes need a mesh node.
Adding these later means cutting into a finished ceiling or running visible cable along the wall, and nobody wants either a month after moving in.
Controls and smart-home integration
You can mix control methods on the same motor:
- Remote: multi-channel remotes run one window or a whole room.
- Wall switch: useful for family members who don’t want an app.
- Phone app: schedules, groups and control from anywhere.
- Alexa and Google Assistant: via Wi-Fi motors directly, or through a hub (Zigbee or Matter based) for some motor ranges.
Not every motor talks to every assistant. We confirm compatibility with what you already use before ordering, and set up scenes at handover: “good morning” opens the living room sheers, “movie” closes the blackouts.
Motorized curtains for high-rise glass in Hyderabad
The tall glass walls in towers across Kokapet, the Financial District and Narsingi bring their own problems. West-facing glass heats up through the afternoon, so a schedule that closes a blackout layer before the sun reaches the glass keeps the room noticeably cooler. Wind through an open sliding door pushes curtains around, so we pick motors with soft start and stop and, where the range offers it, obstacle detection. Ceiling-mounted tracks in a pelmet or false-ceiling pocket also hide the motor and stop light leaking over the top.
Our guide to window solutions for high-rise apartments covers glare, heat and wind on upper floors in more detail. For bedrooms, pair the motor with our blackout curtains.
How long does it take?
Expect about a week to ten days for curtains to be stitched and blinds made to size after the home visit. Installation takes two to four hours per room. Any wiring is done before that.
What decides the cost?
- Motor type and brand, wired or battery
- Track length, bends (bay or corner windows) and single versus double track
- Curtain fabric, lining and weight, or blind type and size
- Control setup: remotes, switches, smart hub
- Electrical work, if a new socket is needed

Care and upkeep
Wipe dust off the track every few months, since Hyderabad’s construction dust builds up on carriers and makes motors work harder. Let the motor move the curtain; don’t yank it by hand while it’s running. Recharge battery motors when the app or a slower movement warns you. Plug wired motors into a surge-protected point.
Motorized curtains across Hyderabad
We install across Hyderabad, including Gachibowli and Jubilee Hills. For non-motorized options, see our window blinds service, and for keeping sun-facing rooms cooler, our guide to heat-reducing curtains and blinds.
Book a free home visit or WhatsApp +91 98499 17494 with your window sizes. We’ll check power, ceiling and fabric weight and tell you which motor suits each window.
How it works
- Free home visit We measure each window, check ceiling and wall material, note where power is available, and ask how you want to control them: remote, switch, app or voice.
- Motor, track and fabric plan We match the motor to the curtain's width and weight (or the blind's size), pick wired or battery, and confirm smart-home compatibility with your assistant.
- Wiring, if needed For wired motors, a socket or junction box goes at the track head. This is best done before the false ceiling is closed or the walls painted.
- Stitching and installation Curtains are stitched to suit the track and blinds made to size, then the track or roller is fixed, levelled and the motor fitted.
- Pairing, limits and handover We set the open and close limits, pair remotes and switches, connect the app and voice assistant, and set up any schedules you want.
Frequently asked questions
Can existing curtains be motorized?
Existing curtains can often be motorized, but they need to move to a motorised track. Most rod-and-ring or eyelet curtains have to be re-headed (for example as pinch pleat or ripplefold) so they glide on the track's carriers. If the fabric is in good condition, re-heading costs less than new curtains. Very heavy or very long curtains may need a higher-rated motor. On the home visit we check the fabric, weight and window width and tell you whether reuse makes sense.
Do motorized curtains work with Alexa and Google Assistant?
Motorized curtains and blinds can work with Alexa and Google Assistant if the motor supports it. Some motors connect directly over home Wi-Fi; others connect through a small hub or bridge (often Zigbee or Matter based) that links them to the assistant. Not every motor works with every assistant, so compatibility is checked before ordering. Once linked, you can say commands like 'close the bedroom curtains', group windows into scenes, and set schedules in the app.
What happens to motorized curtains during a power cut?
Battery-powered motors keep working through a power cut because they run on their own rechargeable battery. Wired motors stop until power returns. Many wired curtain track motors let you draw the curtain gently by hand in the meantime, while wired blind motors usually stay where they are. For a bedroom you depend on, choose a battery motor or connect the motor's socket to your home inverter circuit. We discuss both options on the home visit.
Battery or wired motor: which is better?
Wired motors suit new homes and renovations, where a socket can be placed at the track head before the false ceiling or painting is done; they never need charging. Rechargeable battery motors suit finished homes and rented flats, because no wiring or wall chasing is needed. They are charged through a cable every few months, depending on how often they run. Both work with remotes, apps and voice assistants. We recommend based on your ceiling, wiring and how many windows are involved.
Can motorized blinds be fitted in a rented flat?
Yes. Motorized blinds and curtains with rechargeable battery motors are well suited to rented flats in Hyderabad because they need no new wiring, only brackets drilled into the wall or ceiling. When you move, the blinds and track can be taken down and refitted elsewhere if the new windows are similar in size. Check with your landlord before drilling, and keep the original fittings so you can restore the window when you hand the flat back.
How much weight can a motorized curtain track carry?
Motorized curtain track capacity depends on the motor model, and motors are rated by the load they can pull, in kilograms. A pair of lined blackout curtains on a wide floor-to-ceiling window is far heavier than sheers on a bedroom window, and needs a higher-rated motor and a sturdier track. Track bends, such as bay windows, also add load. We calculate the approximate fabric weight from the width, height and fabric on the home visit and choose a motor with spare capacity.
Are motorized curtains noisy?
Modern motorized curtains are quiet, with a low hum while the curtain moves and silence otherwise. Track motors drive a belt inside the track, and noise mostly comes from carriers on a poorly levelled or dusty track, which is why installation quality matters. Tubular blind motors sit inside the roller and are similarly quiet. For bedrooms and nurseries we choose motors marketed for low noise and soft start and stop, so they don't wake anyone.
How long does motorized curtain installation take?
Installing motorized curtains or blinds usually takes two to four hours per room once everything is ready. Before that, stitching curtains and making blinds to size typically takes about a week to ten days after the home visit, depending on the fabric. If a wired motor needs a new socket at the track head, the electrical work comes first. Pairing remotes, the app and voice assistants is done on the installation day before we leave.
