Balcony blinds in Hyderabad have a harder job than any window blind. They sit outside the glass, so they take the June to September monsoon head-on, bake in afternoon sun from March to June, and on the 20th floor of a tower they catch wind that would rip a cheap chik off its hooks. Our window blinds service in Hyderabad handles balconies as a separate job for that reason: the material, fixing and anchoring matter more than the colour. For indoor blinds and how they compare, see our complete window blinds buying guide.

Which balcony blind suits your home?

High-rise, west-facing balcony (common in towers across Kokapet, the Financial District and Tellapur): sunscreen roller blinds with side guide wires. The mesh cuts glare and heat but you can still see out, and the guides stop the blind from sailing in the wind. Choose a lower openness (tighter weave) for more shade and privacy, a higher one for more view.

Low-rise or mid-rise open balcony: PVC chick blinds with hooks at the bottom. They cut glare and shed rain, give daytime privacy from the next block while letting some light through, and rinse clean. At night, with the lights on inside, people can see in, so add a roller blind or curtain on the door for night privacy.

Covered balcony or villa sit-out: natural bamboo chiks. They look warmer than PVC, but only last where rain doesn’t reach them regularly.

Utility balcony with a washing machine: PVC chicks, or a clear PVC roll-down if rain blowing in is the main problem.

Balcony facing a busy road or a construction site: PVC chicks or a tight-weave sunscreen fabric cut down the dust that settles on everything, and both wash off with a hose or a wet cloth. Fabric curtains hung outside the glass collect that dust and fade within a season, so we don’t recommend them for open balconies.

Pigeons are the problem: blinds won’t solve it, and neither will invisible grills, which are for fall safety. A bird net across the opening, fitted by a netting specialist, is the fix (we don’t install nets). Our guide to pigeon-proofing a balcony explains the options.

Designing for Hyderabad’s monsoon, sun and wind

Monsoon rain

The southwest monsoon brings wind-driven rain from roughly June to September. A blind that stops at the railing top lets rain blow in below it, so we size drops to cover the full opening where the fixing allows. Materials that don’t absorb water (PVC, coated mesh) are the safe default for any balcony the rain actually reaches.

Afternoon sun

On a west-facing balcony, the floor and walls soak up heat all afternoon and radiate it into the living room through the sliding door. Shading the balcony itself cuts that load before it reaches the glass. For more on this, read how to keep a Hyderabad home cool in summer.

Wind on high floors

A blind fixed only at the top behaves like a sail. We use weighted bottom bars, hooks or tie-downs into the parapet or floor, and side guide wires on exposed balconies. On the most exposed balconies, zip-track blinds lock the fabric edges into side channels and handle wind best. Whatever the system, roll the blinds up fully when a storm warning comes; no fixing is designed to hold a lowered blind in a squall.

RWA and facade rules

Many gated communities set rules on what can appear on the facade: colour, projecting fittings, sometimes a common blind style for every flat. We mount brackets into the RCC slab or beam, inside the building line (never into cladding or a glass railing), and keep to neutral beige, grey and natural tones that most associations accept. Check your society’s guidelines before ordering. Our guide to gated-community interior rules lists what associations commonly restrict.

How long does it take?

Fabrication takes about 5 to 7 working days after measurement. Installation takes two to four hours for a typical balcony with two or three bays.

What decides the cost of balcony blinds?

  • Material: PVC chick, sunscreen fabric, clear PVC, bamboo or venetian
  • Total area and number of bays between columns
  • Operation: cord, crank, spring or motorised
  • Wind hardware: guide wires, channels, tie-downs
  • Fixing: into the concrete slab or beam, including fixing through a balcony false ceiling where there is one

Care and maintenance

Rinse PVC and sunscreen blinds with water and mild soap after the monsoon and again before Diwali to shift the dust. Roll bamboo chiks only when completely dry. Check cords and hooks before June each year, because UV and heat weaken them over time. Roll everything up when strong wind is forecast.

Balcony blinds across Hyderabad

We fit balcony blinds across the city, including Kondapur and Miyapur. For motorised outdoor blinds controlled by remote or app, see motorized curtains and blinds.

WhatsApp a photo of your balcony and its direction to +91 98499 17494, or book a free home visit to have each bay measured and the right material suggested.

How it works

  1. Free home visit We look at which way the balcony faces, how high it is, whether it's open or covered, and what you want to block: sun, rain, dust, wind or the neighbours' view.
  2. Society rules check We ask whether your RWA has facade guidelines on colour or external fittings, and plan mounting inside the balcony slab line where possible.
  3. Measure each bay Each opening between columns is measured separately, with the fixing point in the RCC slab or beam and anchor points for tie-downs noted.
  4. Fabrication Blinds are made to size in the chosen material, with bottom bars, guide wires or hooks as needed. This usually takes about five to seven working days.
  5. Installation and demo We fix brackets, hang and level the blinds, fit the guides or tie-downs, and show you how to secure them when a storm is forecast.

Frequently asked questions

Which blinds are best for a balcony in Hyderabad?

For most Hyderabad balconies, the best choices are PVC chick blinds and outdoor roller blinds in sunscreen fabric. PVC chicks cut glare, keep off most rain and are easy to wash. Sunscreen rollers cut heat as well as glare while keeping the view, and are the better choice on high, west-facing balconies. Natural bamboo chiks look warm but absorb water, so they suit covered balconies. Clear PVC roll-downs are useful only for keeping monsoon rain out. The right pick depends on direction, height and exposure.

Are PVC blinds waterproof for the monsoon?

PVC balcony blinds don't absorb water, so rain simply runs off and they dry quickly without rotting or growing mould. PVC chick blinds made of narrow strips will still let some wind-driven rain through the gaps between strips, while clear PVC roll-down sheets keep rain out almost completely. For the June to September monsoon, PVC is the most practical choice for open balconies. Rinse the blinds with mild soap after the rains to remove dust and mud splashes.

Will bamboo blinds survive the monsoon?

Natural bamboo blinds can last through Hyderabad's monsoon only if they stay mostly dry. Bamboo absorbs water, and blinds that stay wet develop black mould and loosen at the strings. They work well on covered balconies and sit-outs, or if you roll them up whenever heavy rain is expected and let them dry fully before rolling them again. For open balconies exposed to rain, PVC chick blinds in a bamboo-look finish give a similar appearance without the moisture problem.

How do you stop balcony blinds flapping in the wind on high floors?

To stop balcony blinds flapping on high floors, the bottom of the blind must be held. We use weighted bottom bars, hooks or tie-downs fixed to the parapet or floor, and on exposed balconies, side guide wires or channels that keep the blind running in a straight line. Loose chiks with only a top fixing will swing and eventually tear on upper floors. In a storm warning, roll the blind up fully. We plan anchors on the home visit.

Do balcony blinds keep heat out of the house?

Balcony blinds reduce heat entering the house by shading the balcony floor, walls and glass doors before the sun reaches them. This matters most on west-facing balconies in Hyderabad, where afternoon sun heats the balcony, which then radiates heat into the living room through the sliding door. Sunscreen roller blinds and PVC chicks both help; sunscreen fabric keeps the view while blocking glare. Pair them with curtains or blinds on the sliding door for the best effect.

Does my gated community allow balcony blinds?

Many gated communities in Hyderabad allow balcony blinds but set facade guidelines, such as neutral colours, fittings within the balcony line, or a common style for all flats. Some restrict anything that projects outside the building face. Check your RWA's interior or facade rules before ordering. We plan mounting inside the balcony slab line and offer neutral beige, grey and natural tones, which most associations accept. If your society needs approval, we can share the specification you submit.

Can balcony blinds keep pigeons out?

Balcony blinds don't reliably keep pigeons out. They are designed to roll up and have gaps at the sides and bottom, so pigeons find their way in, especially when the blinds are raised during the day. Invisible grills don't stop pigeons either. The effective fix is a bird net fitted edge to edge across the opening by a netting specialist; Baaft Decor doesn't install nets, but we can plan the blinds so their fixings don't clash with one.

How long does balcony blind installation take?

Balcony blinds usually take about five to seven working days to make after the home visit and measurement. Installation then takes two to four hours for a typical apartment balcony with two or three bays, and longer for large wraparound balconies or villa sit-outs. If side guide wires, tie-downs or a motor are included, allow some extra time on installation day. We confirm the timeline with your quote.
